        History

The Dominion Seed House was founded in 1928 in Georgetown, Ontario, by William Bradley (1886-1953), owner of the Bradley-Edwards Electric Company. The Bradley-Edwards Electric Company, founded in 1922, was a mail order business that sold electrical appliances like stove ranges, mixers, and coffeemakers. In 1928, when the electric appliance business was slow, Bradley introduce mail order seed packets. The business expanded and eventually sold over 1000 varieties of seeds and bulbs as well as gardening accessories. The Dominion Seed House became one of the largest mail order supplier of seeds and plants in Canada for commercial and home gardeners.

In 1936, the Dominion Seed Business moved to the Bradley family farm at the corner of Maple Avenue and Guelph Street in Georgetown. When William Bradley died in November 1953, his wife, Alexandrina Harding, and daughter, Margaret Harding, took over the business. The Dominion Seed House was sold in 1993 to Perron of Quebec. The Dominion Seed House building was leased out as a nursery until 1998, when the land was sold for redevelopment.
