    Biographical history

    John Taylor (1775-1849), the author of "The Paisley Block Ball", was born Feb.14, 1775 in Forfarshire, Scotland. He married married Margaret Ramsey in 1801 and emigrated to Canada in 1834 with his second wife, Jean Smart. He died May 6, 1849, in Guelph.

    Scope and content

    The collection contains a letter from John and Jean Taylor of Paisley Block, Guelph, concerning family matters, agricultural news, and advice for emigration, and from Ann Just Bruce, daughter of George Bruce and Elizabeth Taylor Bruce, later the wife of Thomas Hood, of Guelph, dated January 12, 1837.
