Part of Macdonald Institute fonds

The pin (1.1 cm diameter) is 14K gold with 2 red garnets (one on the top and one on the bottom), letters "OAC" in the center with the letters "M" and "I" (Macdonald Institute) on either side, blue enamel background. The ring (1.5 cm inside diameter) is 10K gold with a silver "crest" on which are mounted 2 red garnets at the top (the third at the bottom is missing), the number 17 in the center, blue enamel background, with the letters "M' "N" "C" (Macdonald Normal Class) around the edge. Both items are likely made by the Toronto jeweller Ryrie. The pin is stamped Ryrie on the back. The number of garnets equalled the number of years of study. ; Mary (Duff) Flynn graduated as a dietitian from Macdonald Institute in 1917. Harry S. Ryrie graduated from OAC in 1913. He was the son of James Ryrie, founder of the jewelry firm. Ryrie Bros. Ltd., Toronto, advertised in various issues of the OAC review.
