The tunes date from about 1871 to 1886. Cover title. Photocopy. Sullivan Ross was born in 1828 north of Dornoch, Scotland. His family emigrated to Canada around 1838, settling down in West Zorra Township, Oxford County. S. Ross played the violin and by 1864, compiled a second edition of a collection of violin music. He mastered the craft of making violins in the early 1880's. He decided to learn to be a piper after hearing the music in 1856, and was one of the first pipers in Canada to compose music for the bagpipes. He also won the North American Bagpipe Championship at Lucknow, Ont. in 1876
