Fonds consists primarily of letters written by James Innes McIntosh Jr. (1888-1960), son of James Innes McIntosh Sr. (1858-1930), editor of Guelph Mercury, 1898-1929, to his family of 14 Delhi Street, Guelph during the First World War. The fonds also contains a diary written in 1912 by Mary MacDonald (1894-1978), sister of James Jr., while she was attending Westbourne School in Toronto. Various correspondence, postcards, photographs, and financial records related to the family are also included, including a letter from the general manager of the Canadian Press written to James McIntosh Sr. when he sold The Mercury in 1929, correspondence between James Sr. and the Industrial Mortgage and Savings Company, Sarnia, as well as letters between the Guelph Horticultural Society and Fried, Grills Hat Co., Ltd, which came to Guelph around 1919.
