        History

Charles Julius Mickle (1784-1859) and his family came to Canada from Scotland in 1832. They settled on land now occupied by Ignatius Jesuit Centre (formerly the St. Stanislaus Novitiate and Ignatius College) on Elora Road (Highway 6). Charles’ father was William Julius (1734-1788), who was a published author of some repute, and his grandfather, Alexander Mickle (d.1758), was a Presbyterian minister at Langholm, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
