History
James Smibert (1776-1863), a weaver by trade, immigrated from Peebles, Scotland to London, Canada West around 1818. James, his wife Agnes Wilson (1794-1855), and their four children - Elizabeth (b. 1811), William (b. 1812), James (b. 1815), and Isabel (b. 1817) - settled in London Township on the corner of the 8th Concession and Adelaide Sideroad. James and Agnes had six more children in Canada: Marion (b. 1820), Thomas (b. 1822), Alexander (b. 1827), Agnes (b. 1828), George (b. 1830), and Margaret (b. 1836).
