        History

Theatre Compact was founded in April 1976 by Kate Reid, Amelia Hall, Charmion King, Frances Hyland, Jane Mallet, Barry Morse, Barbara Chilcott, Donald Davis, Ron Hartmann, Gordon Pinsent, and George Luscombe - led by James Edmond and Alan Richardson. With the help of Toronto's most experienced actors and directors, it produced and premiered six shows during the two years it was in existence. Among its productions were plays by Alan Richardson, Michael Brodribb, August Strindberg, and Anton Chekhov. Although the response to its adventurous repertoire and high standards was positive, the company ceased operations in 1978 due to financial difficulties.
